Outreach Programs

Ballet Spartanburg is proud of its broad Community Outreach Program. Through Community Outreach the beauty of dance and the joy of participation is brought to all segments of the Spartanburg Community. A few examples of the current programs include:

- After school programs for at-risk youth in partnership with Weed and Seed and Boys and Girls Club of Metro Spartanburg. Training and dancewear are provided to students who would not normally be able to participate in positive, life affirming activities.

- Lecture demonstrations in conjunction with our public performances. Students attend these educational programs in the theater during the school day. “Peter and the Wolf” is offered free of charge to all County schoolchildren kindergarten through fifth grade. Study guides and grade-level appropriate activities that connect to the classroom curriculum are provided.

- AIM (Art in Motion) is a ten week program that brings creative ballet, jazz, modern and improvisational dance, as well as drawing, painting, and sculpture to students who are unable to afford arts classes during the summer. Dance and arts classes are taught on site at a location determined by the Spartanburg Housing Authority.

- Arcadia School is a multi-week week program begun in February 2003. Arcadia Elementary School is unique in its multicultural diversity and has a higher than average population of underserved children. Ballet Spartanburg continues this dance program which focuses on building self esteem, confidence, and team work among the sixty participating students.

- Lecture Demonstrations at over two dozen Spartanburg County schools with dancers from professional companies such as the Amy Marshall Dance Company.

- Performances and dance demonstrations to nursing homes and rehabilitation facilities.

- Dance scholarship program for talented and committed students who are unable to afford tuition.

- Over $3,000.00 worth of tickets distributed to community organizations serving disadvantaged communities.
